Michigan Works! Celebrates Employer and Alumni of the Year Awards

Date: February 10, 2018 |

Michigan Works! Region 7B Consortium gathered recently to celebrate its Employer of the Year Awards. The award is given to an employer who has exemplified utilizing Michigan Works! services to the best of their ability.

Sandvik Hyperion was chosen as the Ogemaw County Employer of the Year, as they have been a staple around the West Branch area since the 1970s. Currently, Sandvik Hyperion employs approximately 120 people and the facility in West Branch is open for operation 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

Over the past year, Michigan Works! has partnered with Sandvik Hyperion on several different occasions. A Regional Hiring Event was held at the Ogemaw County Michigan Works! office in order to help fill vacant positions at the company. Over 30 people attended the event, eight of which were hired. WorkKeys testing has been completed at Michigan Works! for the company and they were assisted in applying for a Skilled Trades Training Fund grant. The Skilled Trades Training Fund grant money that Sandvik Hyperion was awarded was utilized to enhance the skill set of current employees on the ever changing field of manufacturing production.

Cody Zimmer, a manufacturing support specialist at Sandvik Hyperion, was also honored as the Ogemaw County Alumni of the Year. Staff at the Ogemaw County Michigan Works! office offered Zimmer job search support and encouraged him to apply for a position at Sandvik Hyperion. Soon after, Zimmer was hired as a fulltime Manufacturing Support Specialist and he was appreciative of the work that Michigan Works! put into making sure he was successful.

“I finally have some job security with a salary that my family can thrive on and it is all thanks to you and your team,” Zimmer said.

Michigan Works! would like to congratulate Zimmer on his continued success and looks forward to partnering with companies like Sandvik Hyperion for many years to come.
